داستان

داستان فیلم روایت‌گر زندگی چند خانواده است که برای گذراندن تعطیلات به شمال کشور سفر کرده‌اند. دوستان احمد (شهاب حسینی) که پس از سال‌ها زندگی در آلمان به ایران بازگشته، در تلاش هستند تا همسری را برای او بیابند. به همین خاطر، یک معلّم مهدکودک به نام «اِلی» (ترانه علیدوستی) با دعوت سپیده (گلشیفته فراهانی)، به همراه دیگران به این سفر آمده‌است. امّا پس از ناپدید شدن الی در ساحل دریا، ماجرا به یک تراژدی تبدیل می‌شود و هر کس در مورد این مسأله به قضاوت پرداخته و دیگری را مقصر می‌داند. تا آن‌جا که جمع به خاطر منافع خود زمانیکه نامزد جستجوگر الی در پی او از راه می‌رسد از حمایت الی دست کشیده و سپیده را مجاب می‌نمایند که تصویری منفی از الی ارائه دهد.

اکران و حضور در جشنواره‌ها

نمایش در ایران
دربارهٔ الی پیش از آغاز بیست و هفتمین جشنواره فیلم فجر، پیش از داوری هیأت انتخاب، به دلیل بازی گلشیفته فراهانی در آن توسط مقامات وزارت ارشاد از جشنواره کنار گذاشته شد. گلشیفته فراهانی پس از بازی در فیلم مجموعه دروغ‌ها و حضور در مراسم فرش قرمز نمایش فیلم بدون حجاب اسلامی، به‌طور غیررسمی ممنوع‌التصویر دانسته می‌شد. سرانجام پس از رایزنی‌های نهادهای غیردولتی سینما و برخی داوران جشنواره و در پی درخواست مشاور امور هنری رئیس‌جمهور، محمود احمدی‌نژاد به وزیر ارشاد دستور حضور فیلم در جشنواره فیلم فجر را صادر کرد و با تصمیم هیأت انتخاب، به عنوان یکی از فیلم‌های بخش مسابقه برگزیده شد.

دربارهٔ الی برای نخستین بار در ۱۹ بهمن ۱۳۸۷ در تهران نمایش داده‌شد. این اکران با استقبال زیادی رو به رو شد.

در حالی که فیلم از وزارت ارشاد پروانهٔ نمایش داشت و در برنامهٔ اکران نوروز قرار داشت و حتی با گروه سینمایی آفریقا قرارداد بسته بود به دلایل ناشناخته ای از اکران آن که قرار بود ۲۸ اسفند ۱۳۸۷ صورت گیرد، جلوگیری شد. شنیده می‌شد شخص معاون سینمایی دستور این اقدام را داده و یکی از برترین فیلم‌های تاریخ سینمای ایران را در تیرگی توقیف فرو برده‌بود. این فیلم، سرانجام پس از پشت سر گذاشتن دشواری های فراوان، در تاریخ ۱۷ خرداد ۱۳۸۸ به طور گسترده در تهران و شهرستان‌ها اکران شد.

شرکت در جشنوارهٔ فیلم برلین
فیلم دربارهٔ الی به بخش نهایی و مسابقه پنجاه و نهمین دوره جشنواره بین‌المللی فیلم برلین راه یافت. پیش از نخستین نمایش فیلم در این جشنواره، حضور بازیگران زن ایرانی، در مقابل سینمای «برلیناله پالاست» با لباس‌هایی که برگرفته از طرح‌های سنتی با رنگ‌های شاد بود، مورد توجه خبرنگاران و عکاسان خارجی قرار گرفت. سرانجام این فیلم جایزه خرس نقره‌ای بهترین کارگردانی را نصیب اصغر فرهادی کرد.

جشنواره‌های دیگر
در هشتمین دوره جشنواره فیلم ترایبکا در سال ۲۰۰۹، این فیلم موفق به دریافت جایزه بهترین فیلم داستانی بخش بین‌المللی شد. این فیلم همچنین در جشنواره غیررقابتی ویناله در سال ۲۰۰۹، جایزه ویژه خوانندگان روزنامه در استاندارد را به دست آورد.

در روز۲۹ شهریور درباره الی از سوی هیئت معرفی فیلم برگزیده ایرانی به آکادمی علوم و هنرهای سینمایی برای شرکت در مراسم اسکار ۲۰۰۹ انتخاب شد. از بین تعداد زیادی فیلم که به آکادمی معرفی می‌شوند تنها ۵ فیلم به بخش پایانی جشنواره راه می‌یابند.

موسیقی متن

قطعه موسیقی پایانی این فیلم از آلبوم «نغمه‌های سکوت» آندره‌آ باوئر، نوازنده ویولن سل و آهنگساز آلمانی، برداشت شده است.

منتقدان

دیتر کسلیک مدیر جشنواره برلین این فیلم را نشانه‌ای از آغاز موجی نو در سینمای ایران دانست. خبرگزاری فرانسه از این فیلم به عنوان «درامی ایرانی که قلب‌ها را شکست»، یاد کرده‌است.

دیوید بوردول، از بزرگ‌ترین منتقدان و نظریه‌پردازان سینمای جهان به تازگی فیلم را دیده و آن را یک شاهکار و بهترین فیلم سال جهان تا به حال خوانده‌است.

قصة الفیلم

ثلاثة عائلات من (طهران) یخرجون فی رحلة إلى الشمال و معهم ضیفین (أحمد) و (إیلی) و هناک نیة مسبقة بتحریض من (زبیدة) بمحاولة تدبیر لقاء لتعریفهما ببعض على أمل الارتباط ، یبدأ الفلم بدایة مرحة.. لکن یحدث ما لم یکن بالحسبان و تنقلب الأمور رأساً على عقب و عند تلک النقطة یتغیر مسار الفلم کلیاً و تبدأ بعض الحقائق بالتکشف و یتکرر هذا السؤال.. من هی (إیلی)؟
نقد الفیلم

بعکس أفلام مخرجین مثل (کیروستامی) و (بناهی) و (مخملباف) فإن مخرج أصغر فرهادی ینتهج نهجاً سینمائیاً أکثر توجهاً نحو إمتاع الجمهور و الاقتراب منه -کما فعل (مجیدی) فی أفلامه- ، عن طریق سیناریو یتبع الأسس السردیة التقلیدیة بحرفیة و إتقان بحیث یظهر کأفضل ما یکون من تسلسل أحداث و حوار و حبکة کل هذا بالاعتماد على قصة بسیطة و مؤثرة تجذب المشاهد إلى آخر لحظة.
استطاع الممثلون ببراعة أن یدخلوا فی أجواء السیناریو و کأنک تشاهد أحداثاً واقعیة ساهمت حرکت الکامیرا الشفافة و الدقیقة فی رصد تغیرات الأحداث و رفع وتیرتها عند بلوغ الحدث قمة الحبکة الدرامیة.

Alles über Elly (persisch ‏درباره الی‎, Darbārehye Elly), im deutschsprachigen Raum auch unter dem Titel Elly... bekannt, ist ein Spielfilm des iranischen Filmemachers Asghar Farhadi. Der Film porträtiert die iranische Mittelschicht, deren Moralvorstellungen er vorsichtig hinterfragt.

Handlung

Ahmad, der einige Jahre in Deutschland verbracht hat und frisch geschieden ist, macht im Iran Ferien. Mit einigen Freunden verbringt er ein Wochenende am Kaspischen Meer, wo ihn seine Freunde mit Elly bekannt machen, die sie in hohen Tönen loben. Nachdem eines der Kinder beim Spielen im Meer fast ertrinkt, fällt der Gruppe auf, dass Elly verschwunden ist.
Man vermutet, dass sie möglicherweise versucht hat, das Kind zu retten. Auch nach Einbruch der Nacht ist Elly noch immer nicht aufgetaucht. Die Stimmung kippt. Man macht sich Gedanken darüber, dass sie ohne Abschied zu nehmen einfach weggefahren sein könnte. Später kommt heraus, dass sie bereits verlobt ist. Bei der Benachrichtigung des Verlobten verstricken sich die Freunde in Lügen. Zum Schluss wird ihre Leiche entdeckt, sie ist ertrunken.
Kritik

Jan Schulz-Ojala vom Tagesspiegel gefiel, dass Farhadi nicht mit vorgefassten Konzepten an seine Geschichte herangehe, sondern für die Entwicklung des Stoffes aus sich selber offen bleibe. Der Film sei „hochspannend“. Für den Zeit-Rezensenten Markus Zinsmaier ist Elly „konzentriert und stilsicher“. Ab der Mitte verliere der Film „an Farbe, nicht aber an Intensität.“ Barbara Schweizerhof wertete das Werk in epd Film als „souverän inszeniert“, „dialoglastig, aber durchgehend spannend“ und ohne „alarmistischen Entlarvungsgestus“. „Wer genau hinschaut, kennt am Ende den Iran ein kleines Stück mehr.“ Laut der Kritik im Tages-Anzeiger von Thomas Bodmer reicht Elly nicht ganz an Farhadis Nader und Simin – Eine Trennung heran, aber „geht einem noch lange nach.“ Und: „Immer wieder ist man als Zuschauer gezwungen, die Meinung, die man sich eben gemacht hat, zu revidieren.“ „Ein Meister subtil inszenierter Blicke“ sei Regisseur Farhadi, meinte Jens Hinrichsen vom film-dienst. Die beiden Frauen Golshifteh Farahani und Taraneh Alidousti setzten darstellerische Glanzpunkte. In der zweiten Hälfte hänge die Handlung „etwas“ durch, weil der Regisseur den Figuren zu wenig Schärfe verleihe. „Farhadis Film lässt gegenläufige Lesarten zu: Es geht um eine sich behutsam öffnende Gesellschaft, die von Regression bedroht ist; es geht aber auch um einen falsch verstandenen Freiheitsbegriff (hier zielt die Kritik auf die westliche Welt), der die Wünsche anderer missachtet – und Unfreiheit bewirkt.“

Synopsis

Lors dun week-end au bord de la mer Caspienne au nord de l’Iran, un groupe d’amis de la faculté de droit de luniversité de Téhéran se rassemble. Ils sont trois couples : Sepideh (qui organise ce voyage), son mari Amir et leur fille ; Shohreh, son mari Peyman et leurs deux enfants, dont un garçon nommé Arash ; Naazy et son mari Manouchehr - et Elly, institutrice de la fille dAmir et Sepideh, que cette dernière a invitée pour la présenter à Ahmad, un ami revenu d’Allemagne pour (probablement) se marier.
Ils se rendent dans une villa que Sepideh a réservée depuis Téhéran, mais la responsable du lieu leur dit quils ne pourront pas y rester 3 jours. Elle leur suggère daller dans une autre villa, inoccupée, sale et en mauvais état - mais chacun y met du sien pour le ménage et les menues réparations, dans la bonne humeur, et la maison devient vite chaleureuse. Elly, qui ne connait personne, est un peu timide parmi eux tous. Ahmad est intéressé par elle, et ils essaient de les rapprocher. Les allusions sont grossières et gênent un peu la jeune femme, qui éprouve aussi de lattirance pour Ahmad.
Le week-end se déroule dans une ambiance de fête, lorsque tout à coup on saperçoit quArash, le fils de Shohreh et Peyman, est en train de se noyer ; Elly a disparu…

About Elly (Persian: درباره الی‎, translit. Darbareye Elly) is a 2009 Iranian film directed by Asghar Farhadi. It is the fourth film by Farhadi. The film is about the relationships between some middle class families in Iran.
Farhadi won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 59th Berlin Film Festival for the film. The film was also nominated for 10 awards at the 27th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran where Farhadi won the Crystal Symorgh for best directing. About Elly was Irans official submission for the competition in Foreign Film section at the 82nd Academy Awards. It competed against films such as Bist, Tardid, Bipooli for Irans submission in the Academy Awards.

Plot

A group of middle-class Iranian friends travel to the shores of the Caspian Sea on a three-day vacation. They are former classmates at the Law faculty in the university. Three couples include Sepideh and her husband Amir who have a little daughter. Shohreh and her husband Peiman who have two children including their little son Arash. Nazy and her husband Manoochehr are the third family. The trip is planned by Sepideh, who brings along her daughters kindergarten teacher Elly in order to introduce her to Ahmad, a friend who has come back from Germany to get married.
They all go to the villa that Sepideh has booked from Tehran, but the rural woman in charge tells them that the owners of the place were going to come back the next day, so they wouldnt be able stay there. The old woman suggests that they stay in a deserted villa that needs a lot of repairs. There would be no cellphone reception there and they would have to go to the old womans house in order to make calls. Sepideh lies to the old woman about the relationship between Elly and Ahmad: she says theyre married and are there for their honey moon.
Elly is a bit shy, but she begins to feel attracted to Ahmad, who seems to feel the same. She calls her mother and lies to her saying that shes with her co-workers at the sea-side. She wishes to go back to Tehran the following day, as planned. Sepideh does not want her to leave and hides her luggage. In a twist of events, Elly goes missing after one of the mothers asks her to watch the children playing in the water. The group does not know whether Elly drowned or left for Tehran on her own.

Reception

The film was hailed critically upon the release in its home country. One year after its release, it was voted the 4th greatest Iranian movie of all time by national society of Iranian critics.
One of the strongest supporters of About Elly is David Bordwell, the famous film theorist and film critic, who has called it a masterpiece: " Gripping as sheer storytelling, the plot smoothly raises some unusual moral questions. It touches on masculine honor, on the way a thoughtless laugh can wound someone’s feelings, on the extent to which we try to take charge of others’ fates. I can’t recall another film that so deeply examines the risks of telling lies to spare someone grief. But no more talk: The less you know in advance, the better. About Elly deserves worldwide distribution pronto."
Alissa Simon of Variety wrote in her review: "To many, the film’s first half may seem mannered, even boring, with the old pals, particularly the men, indulging in obnoxious, condescending behavior. But after an alarming incident at the 45-minute mark, Farhadi ratchets up the tension, and the pic becomes a mystery thriller of sorts that epitomizes the Sir Walter Scott quote, Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. "
Adam Eisenberg in his review from Tribeca Film Festival called About Elly: "a mirror of sorts to Michelangelo Antonioni’s stylistic revolution, L’Avventura." And wrote: "Here the contrast between Farhadi and Antonini is perhaps sharpest. Although L’avventura is certainly cinematic with its relationship between images and themes, ... In Farhadi’s world, cold glances, a husband’s demand for more tea, and tearful rage, are all comments, not symbols, on a culture where telling the truth is often not the best option. It’s a culture that lends itself to suspense, and Farhadi might have more in common with Hitchcock, than the Iranian New Wave he emerges from."
Also Christopher Bourne after seeing the film at Tribeca Film Festival said: "The brilliance of Farhadi’s script and direction (his efforts earned him the Silver Bear for best director at this year’s Berlin Film Festival) becomes most apparent in the latter stages of the film. As one secret after another is revealed, Farhadi deftly maps out the shifts in the perceptions and behavior of the characters toward each other as well as the viewer’s perception of the characters."

Trama

Quattro coppie di amici di Teheran si recano in una località balneare sul Mar Caspio per passare tre giorni assieme. Sono tutti ex studenti che si sono conosciuti alla Facoltà di Legge delluniversità. Tre delle coppie sono sposate, mentre laltra è costituita da Ahmad ed Elly. Ahmad è stato sposato in Germania, ma ora è divorziato. Elly, che fa la maestra nellasilo della figlia di Sepidé, è single. Sepidé ha proposto ad Elly di passare la vacanza con loro proprio per farle conoscere Ahmad.
Decidono di andare nellappartamento che affittano di solito, ma giunti a destinazione viene detto loro che anche i proprietari hanno deciso di trascorrere una vacanza, quindi devono trovarsi un altro posto. È rimasta libera solamente una villa proprio davanti al mare.
Siccome lacqua è profonda e ci sono tre bambini piccoli, e nella villa i cellulari non prendono, sono un po preoccupati ma, non avendo più tempo per cercare, decidono di accettare la villa.
La mattina dopo Ahmad ed Elly vanno a fare un giro da soli in città, con la "benedizione" del gruppo. Elly chiama sua madre, senza dirle con chi è, poi la rassicura dicendole che sarà a casa il giorno seguente. Nel pomeriggio, mentre gli uomini giocano a pallavolo, e due donne sono in città, i bambini rimangono a giocare sulla spiaggia. Improvvisamente uno di loro rimane preso dalle onde. Dopo una disperata ricerca, viene fortunatamente tratto in salvo. Quando sembra essere tornata la calma, ci si accorge che Elly è sparita. Ricominciano le ricerche, ma la donna non viene ritrovata. Viene chiamata la polizia per formalizzare la dichiarazione di scomparsa di Elly: stranamente, Sepidé non sa il suo cognome. Le ricerche continuano incessantemente, mentre gli altri sinterrogano se la sera prima Elly abbia potuto udire qualcosa che labbia offesa, ma il ritrovamento della sua borsa dentro la villa fa scartare questa ipotesi.
La mattina dopo, lultimo giorno di vacanza, il gruppo è completamente spossato. Dopo una riunione, si decide di avvisare la famiglia di Elly: la madre però soffre di cuore, e Ahmad si ricorda che la mattina in cui erano andati in città Elly aveva ricevuto una chiamata da unaltra persona, e aveva chiuso il telefonino dicendo che avrebbe richiamato lei. Decidono quindi di chiamare quel numero. Il marito di Sepidé, Amir, prende il cellulare, va in una zona dove cè campo e telefona. La persona che risponde è il fratello di Elly. Con una scusa lo convince a raggiungerli in città, assicurandogli che gli avrebbe spiegato la situazione a parole.
Quando Amir rientra in casa e spiega che ha parlato con il fratello di Elly, Sepidé rivela che quelluomo era in realtà il fidanzato di Elly che, infatti, non ha fratelli. Sepidé sapeva che Elly era fidanzata da qualche anno e che da qualche tempo voleva chiudere la relazione. Le aveva quindi proposto di conoscere un suo amico. I tre giorni di vacanza sarebbero stati loccasione più propizia ed Elly aveva accettato. Nasce unaccesa discussione: il gruppo disapprova fortemente il comportamento di Sepidé.
Allappuntamento si recano Ahmad e Sepidé. La donna sale in macchina con il ragazzo e, durante il tragitto fino alla villa, gli racconta che Elly è probabilmente morta. Giunti alla villa, luomo chiede di essere lasciato solo davanti alla spiaggia. Alla casa, poi, si decide di dire al ragazzo il vero motivo per cui Elly era stata invitata alla vacanza. La sua reazione è immediata: colpisce con un pugno al viso Ahmad. Dopo essersi calmato, chiede di parlare a quattrocchi con Sepidé.
I due si trovano soli in una stanza. Il ragazzo le fa una domanda precisa: "Io ho dedicato ad Elly tre anni della mia vita, quindi la prego di dirmi la verità. Quando lei ha proposto ad Elly di venire con voi, Elly le ha risposto Non posso venire oppure no?". Sepidé le risponde di no. Affranto, esce dalla stanza. In quel momento giunge la notizia che la polizia ha ritrovato il corpo di una ragazza annegata. Il fidanzato di Elly si presta al riconoscimento della giovane donna. Dopo aver espletato questa formalità, prende la via di casa.
